Job description
Students and staff at National Star love their food which is why working as Cook at our charity is such a rewarding role.
The role is interesting and varied providing a healthy and nutritious catering service to National Star’s students and staff at our main site in Ullenwood on the outskirts of Cheltenham. We have a staff minbus to help you with transport or plenty of parking if you prefer to drive.
You will be working 34 hours a week, term time only – Monday to Wednesday we can be flexible to accommodate school hours – Thursdays and Fridays we would prefer you to work a full 8 hour shift typically 10am – 6pm. You will work one weekend in four (Saturday and Sunday, typically 10 am – 6pm) instead of the Thurs / Friday shift.
Students have different dietary requirements and it would be up to you to ensure that they are met and that portion sizes are appropriate. Knowledge of special diets would help you to hit the ground running in this role.
We’d be looking to you to ensure food stocks are rotated and that waste is minimised through the cost efficient ordering of supplies within your supplied budget.
We pride ourselves on our food hygiene ratings and it goes without saying that you would ensure that excellent standards of hygiene and cleanliness are adhered to at all times. A basic food hygiene certificate is essential.
If you have 2-3 years’ experience in a catering setting preparing food for large or small numbers of people as well as managing menus and ordering of food and supplies we would love to hear from you.
