Work related learning

Wessington Court Farm is an innovative training hub based in Hereford. Interns develop a range of transferable skills, such as team work, time management, personal organisation, communication, health and safety awareness and using initiative. Interns also develop appropriate behaviours and attitudes for work. These skills are taken out to employers in the community in an area of the intern’s choice, for example, retail, catering or hospitality. Where appropriate, interns also complete vocational, English and maths qualifications. Throughout the programme they are supported by a tutor and a job coach, as well as their host employer. The supported internship is a one-year course. It is term time only and four days a week (Monday to Thursday).

Personalised learning

Each intern has a personalised programme to support them to achieve their aspirations. This may include support with independent travel. Over the course of the programme interns transition from four days at the Wessington hub to one or two days at Wessington and two to three days working with a host employer.

Outcomes

At the end of their programme interns are supported to research jobs, apply for roles and prepare for and attend interviews. Last year 59% of interns moved into paid work with all others taking voluntary positions.
