Aquatic therapy makeover

Students can take greater control of the mood and atmosphere in their aquatic therapy sessions after a makeover of National Star’s aquatic therapy pool.

Students can take greater control of the mood and atmosphere in their aquatic therapy sessions after a makeover of National Star’s aquatic therapy pool.

New technology will allow students to relax and benefit more from their sessions. The new technology includes:

  • A surround and underwater music system which allows students to tailor music to their personal preference
  • Colourful lighting displays encouraging students to use their creativity and express their mood
  • Beam lighting adds themed options. If a student loves the outdoors, they can display trees and leaves
  • Resistance jets in the pool. These are used to strengthen swimming techniques against the flow
  • A giant water shower is a sensory experience which can be used on different parts of the body for increased sensation

Meeting the complex multi–sensory needs of our students with bespoke environmental controls directly benefits their relaxation and muscle tone management. Allowing students to control the environment encourages them to attend regular sessions, ensuring they are achieving the best result possible.

Our Physiotherapy Deputy Manager, Olivia Williams said: ‘It’s fantastic to see the students’ reactions to the new technology. They have great engagement with it. The atmosphere it creates amplifies the benefits of the aquatic therapy.’

We couldn’t introduce improvements like this without the support of people like you. If you would like to get involved with supporting one of our bespoke projects, get in touch with our fundraising team today by emailing fundraising@nationalstar.org.
