Work is underway to expand our facilities at National Star in Hereford to meet the growing needs of students with complex disabilities.
Work is underway to expand our facilities at National Star in Hereford to meet the growing needs of students with complex disabilities.
The demand for specialist education in Hereford has doubled within the last four years. The new extension will ensure we can continue to offer personalised learning and therapy support to more students in the future.
We have launched the ‘Building a Brighter Future in Hereford’ appeal to expand the facilities.
With your support, we will be able to provide:
- Two bright new classrooms
- Two extra personal care rooms
- A life–skills kitchen fitted with adjustable worktops and slide and hide ovens ensuring all students can access and learn within this space
- Adding to the existing space at The Eveson Centre in Hereford will allow us to accommodate more students with a wide range of needs, safely and effectively.
We are determined to ensure that every student who comes to National Star has the space to achieve their goals.
One of National Star’s students, Heather, helped the charity launch the appeal at a special open evening. In attendance was the Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire, the Mayor of Hereford, and leaders of Herefordshire
County Council amongst other supporters.
When Heather started at National Star she said she was very shy. ‘I didn’t talk to anyone. Now I talk to everyone and even show people around the college.’
Heather’s independence, skills and confidence have blossomed. She loves her work placement at Blackmarston School where she runs a sports session and is a lunchtime supervisor. Her dream is to get a job working with children in education and to live on her own one day.
‘National Star is amazing because they give me so many opportunities,’ says Heather.
‘The Eveson Centre is a wonderful place thanks to the amazing students we have such as Heather,’ says Sasha Narey, Provision Manager at National Star in Hereford.
Our growth shows the incredible need in Hereford. These new facilities will enable us to support more young people and be able to adapt to meet their needs. We passionately believe that the young people of Herefordshire are worth investing in, but we need your help to make that happen.
By supporting our appeal, you will be building a brighter future for the county’s young people with disabilities and that will make Herefordshire an even better place to live.
