Job description

National Star is recruiting extra special people to join its committed team of Peripatetic / Bank Care and Support Workers helping young people with complex disabilities to make the most of their time at college and to live life as independently as possible.  For both our long-term residents and students, everything you do will help create a world without limits.  Together we make sure they get the personalised care they need, whether they’re socialising or enjoying their passions and hobbies.

The students and long-term residents we support across Hereford, Malvern, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Wales have a wide range of learning and physical disabilities. Like other young people of the same age many of them love fashion, listening to music, shopping, watching sport and socialising with their friends.

As one of our peripatetic care and support workers you will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team, providing personalised care for both students and long-term residents, helping them realise their potential and to enable students to access their lessons.

Key tasks involve:

  • Delivering all aspects of personal care including washing, dressing, and helping at mealtimes.
  • Provide support in the classroom or other learning environments, working closely with a specialist tutor.
  • Plan, organise and accompany residents on days out.
  • Plan, organise and support high quality evening and weekend leisure activities. This may involve accompanying students to the theatre and cinema, tenpin bowling or other local attractions such as Cadbury World.
  • Help record student progress against their personal goals
  • Liaise with family members, enabling a student/resident to speak to parents, friends and family and providing updates on activities and progress
  • Administer medication to students/residents in line with policy and procedure, after receiving relevant training.

Whether it’s the big moments some of us take for granted or the small triumphs that others wouldn’t expect, together, we focus on what’s possible for every person we support and recognise that the connections we make today are the memories of tomorrow. It’s their life. You make sure they’re busy living it.
