Job description
We are looking for qualified experienced Occupational Therapist / Senior Occupational Therapist who is creative, dynamic and driven to join our friendly, hard-working team at National Star on a 12-month fixed term contract. If you are looking for a good work / life balance our OT’s work term time only and we could consider part time hours if necessary.
This role will be based primarily at National Star College in Hereford but you may also be asked to support our students at our other sites in South Wales, Worcester and Cheltenham so you will need to be willing to travel as part of this role.
Occupational therapy plays a key role in supporting young adult learners who have complex physical and learning disabilities to achieve their goals of independence and progress within their educational outcomes. Most of our students participate in a 3-year education programme, giving us the opportunity to build strong relationships, complete a variety of assessments and deliver intervention programmes that enable our young people to make real progress and gain a real sense of achievement.
Ideally you will have a range of experiences, either working in a similar field or with transferable clinical skills that would enable you to support our learners. Previous experience in paediatrics, neurology, acquired brain injury, wheelchairs and special seating, complex disability, profound and multiple learning disability or sensory integration would be of particular interest to us.
It goes without saying that you will have excellent communication skills, to enable you to liaise effectively with other therapy teams, tutors, residential staff, parents and external agencies.
You will be a creative people person, with bags of enthusiasm to use your professional skills to enhance the lives of students who have big personalities, and even bigger ambitions, to live life to the full.
This is a fantastic opportunity for you to experience occupational therapy within a college setting, to experience working as an ‘OT’ you were trained to do. We offer an intensive mandatory training induction package to our new starters and there are opportunities to complete internal/external training relevant to our area of practice.
