National Star is making a significant step in its journey towards becoming a Net Zero organisation by investing in installing solar panels on the south facing roof of one of its student residences.
Ninety panels will be installed on the south elevation roof of Ullenwood View during July and August.
These panels are expected to generate around 44,500 kWh of electricity annually.
It is estimated that the panels will save the charity an estimated £11,500 a year in electricity.
This latest solar installation is the second for the charity as the new student accommodation, Bradbury House and Scott House, which opened at Ullenwood in September, also has solar panels installed on its roof.
‘I am delighted that we are pressing ahead with installing solar panels at our Ullenwood campus. Solar panels will help National Star to significantly lower its carbon emissions and reduce the charity’s carbon footprint, as well as helping us to manage our overall electricity costs long-term,’ said Elaine Hodgin, National Star’s National Lead – Marketing and Sustainability.
